Use your PC while it runs

lunaMacro plays with the mouse and keyboard, so normally it needs your screen to itself. With Remote Desktop, it gets a second Windows desktop of its own, and you keep using yours.

How it works

Windows can run a second user's desktop at the same time as yours. You connect to it with Remote Desktop, from your own PC, and it opens in a window. The game and lunaMacro run inside that window, with their own mouse and keyboard, while you carry on in your own desktop.

Windows only lets one person use a PC at a time out of the box. A free tool called RDPWrapKit lifts that limit, and sets the rest up for you.

RDPWrapKit is made by someone else (cpdx4), not by us. It's free and open source, but it changes how Windows' Remote Desktop works, and it comes with no warranty. Use it at your own risk.

What you need

  • Windows 10 or 11.
  • A second Windows account for lunaMacro to run in. RDPWrapKit can make one for you while it installs. It needs a password, as Remote Desktop won't log in to an account without one.
  • A PC that can run the game smoothly while you use it for other things.

1. Install RDPWrapKit

  1. Go to rdpwrapkit.cpdx4.space and press Download RDPWrapKit to get RDPWrapKit-Setup.exe.
  2. Your browser or antivirus may warn about it, which is common for small open-source tools. The site links a VirusTotal scan and its source code if you want to check it first. Allow it if you're happy to.
  3. Run the setup and pick Typical Setup.
  4. Keep the defaults, Install and Create RDP shortcuts. When it offers to create an RDP user, do: that's the account lunaMacro will run in. Note its name and password.
  5. Restart your PC if it asks.

2. Connect to the second desktop

Open the Remote Desktop shortcut RDPWrapKit put on your desktop, and log in as the account you made for lunaMacro.

You can also use Windows' own Remote Desktop Connection app:

  1. Press Win + R, type mstsc and press Enter.
  2. Press Show Options. Under Computer, enter 127.0.0.2, which is your own PC. Under User name, enter the lunaMacro account's name.
  3. On the Display tab, set the size to at least 1280 × 720, so lunaMacro and the game fit side by side.
  4. Go back to General, press Save As to keep these settings for next time, then Connect and enter the password.

Always log in as the second account. Logging in to your own account from Remote Desktop takes over your desktop instead of opening a new one.

3. Set up lunaMacro in the second desktop

Inside the Remote Desktop window, it's a fresh Windows account, so set things up there as you would on a new PC:

  1. Install the game and log in to it.
  2. Copy lunaMacro into that account, or put it somewhere both accounts can reach, such as C:\Users\Public.
  3. Open lunaMacro and enter your key. Your configs can come across with Copy code in your account and Paste in this one.
  4. Press Start as usual.

Your key works here too, since it's still the same PC. You only need to enter it once in this account.

4. While it runs

Use your PC as normal. A few things keep lunaMacro happy:

  • Leave the Remote Desktop window open. It can sit behind your other windows. Closing it disconnects the session, and a disconnected desktop isn't drawn, so lunaMacro can't see the game.
  • Don't minimise it, unless you change one setting. Windows stops drawing a minimised Remote Desktop window. To let it keep drawing, open PowerShell in your own account and run the command below, then reconnect:
New-ItemProperty -Path "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client" -Name RemoteDesktop_SuppressWhenMinimized -Value 2 -PropertyType DWord -Force
  • Stay out of the window while it plays. Clicking inside it moves the second desktop's mouse, just as it would on your own screen.

Without RDPWrapKit

Windows 10 and 11 Pro have Remote Desktop built in (Settings > System > Remote Desktop), but they only allow one desktop at a time. That's still useful for checking on a run from a laptop: turn it on, then connect from the other PC with Remote Desktop Connection. Your main PC is locked while you're connected, and the run carries on. Windows Home can't be connected to without RDPWrapKit.
